Paula Griffin is a professional netball player who represented the New Zealand Silver Ferns at the age of 18. She is now working on her next passion and purpose. Check out her Q&A.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
I’m 6ft 1, NZ/Samoan, very adventurous, love being outdoors amongst nature. Family and friends are most important to me. Love to workout, stay active and play all sports, highly competitive.
Netball, boxing or Muay Thai – which one is the hardest to prepare for?
I’d definitely say kickboxing/Muay Thai. Being an individual sport, it is a much more physical and mental discipline than netball.
What is your proudest achievement?
I think it is easy to be proud of your successful moments in your life. I am more proud of the things that I’ve overcome. Those are the moments that shape you into the person you are today.
What is your biggest lesson?
Always standing up for what you believe in no matter what situation you find yourself in.
What advice would you give aspiring athletes?
Surround yourself with the right people who will uplift you and have your best interests and you will go very far.
Who do you look up to and why?
I feel very empowered by strong women who are amazing role models in today’s society. 3 of the women that I admire the most are Jada Pinkett Smith, Oprah and Parris Goebel.
How do you overcome injuries/setbacks in netball?
I am a big believer in everything happens for a reason. Having set backs and injuries are all learnings. That is how I see it. Things do not happen to you they happen for you so that is always my mentality when something happens to me. What am I supposed to learn? And how can I be better.
What are your hobbies/interests outside of netball?
Travelling, outdoor activities, sports, watching movies, kickboxing, reading, listening to podcasts, and spending quality time with family and friends.
How would your family and friends describe you?
I think my family and friends would describe me as a very passionate, caring kinda person. Hardworking with strong values.
Plans and aspirations for the future?
A lot more travel, ticking off those amazing experiences around the world.
Currently working on my next passion and purpose. Excited to share my project in the future.
